A Fair Economy is Key to an Affordable New York:
Ban Unfair and Abusive Business Practices
Corporate greed makes NY expensive. Anyone can get trapped…
You are not alone.
These real-life examples are called “UDAAPs,” or unfair, deceptive, and abusive business acts and practices. A UDAAP ban is THE consumer protection standard in the nation.
In 42 states and D.C., if you’re the victim of a UDAAP, you can go to court to get your money back.
This access to justice is not just an empty promise. In most states, you can actually afford a lawyer to take your case—if it has merit—because the predatory business has to pay your fees if you win. A strong deterrent to bad conduct! Which gives a boost to honest businesses that don’t scam their customers.
But New York sets the bar lower: we can only get our money back if the bad-apple business gets caught in a lie. For businesses that pitch overpriced, worthless products, or take advantage of a person’s misunderstanding, regular New Yorkers have no tools to fix the problem.
UDAAPs make New York expensive! New Yorkers deserve better: If a company wants the privilege of doing business in New York, they need to run it fairly. Just like they have to across the country.
Bad apple businesses have no place in the Big Apple: Let’s raise the bar.
Who We Are
